What is a Bully?

A bully is someone who is habitually mean to others, inflicting both physical and psychological abuse on his or her victims. Bullies can appear at schools, in workplaces, and on the Internet. Bullying can also take on an international scale when nations bully each other with their politics and militaries. Bullying can be extremely harmful on every level, and there are a variety of ways to deal with bullies and their actions.

Bullies tend to pick on targets they think are weak. Children, for example, will target children who are younger than they are, along with children who look different because of race, disabilities, or fashion sense. People who appear emotionally weak may also be targeted for bullying. Bullies themselves are often former or current victims of bullying. Children who have unstable home lives, for example, may take out their frustration and aggression on other children.

Should this be taken lightly? No punishment for this kind of behavior? Wasn't Hitler a bully?

Adolph Hitler is the epitome of what a coward a bully truly is.

Prejudice and bullying go hand-in-hand. They are two sides of the same coin. In order for someone to bully another person (the victim), the bully needs to judge the victim as different from him/herself. To distinguish the victim from him/herself, the bully must engage in prejudicial categorizations. The bully must place the victim in a "lesser, inferior, undesirable" category, much the same way that Hitler had based his Nazi genocide theory of hatred and persecution towards the Jewish and others he considered "undesirable" and undeserving of humanity in the 1930's.

  1. I don't think that bullying should be taken lightly at all. If no one does anything to at least try to stop it, the problem will only get worse. Not everyone is going to stop if you talk to them about it, but it will open up at least some peoples eyes. The more people that are aware of this and what is going on, the better. It is pretty easy to see that this is wrong. I really think that at least some of these bullies don't really realize what they are doing. Sometimes you just say things and do things without really thinking. If they knew how bad they were hurting people, maybe at least some would change. But then there are the bullies who really don't care and wouldn't change at all. There isn't really much we can do about those kinds of people to change their minds and convince them that what they're doing is wrong. Punishment should be involved in every bullying case. For the big ones that result in death, injury, depression, ect. I believe an effective way of punishing these bullies would be for them to have to go to a class or program or something to help straighten out what's going on in their head. Alcoholics go to classes and learn about it and ways to improve their life and it is very effective for many people. I think something similar would be a good and positive thing. It is very important in life to thing about other people's feelings.

  2. Every buddy has been a bully or been bullied before. Why do people do it? They do it because of differences in another person. Things like how they are emotionally to the color of their skin. Every one is different so why do we feel the need to bully others with differencs when the bullies have them too? I think they do it to feel superior to the other Indevidual even though they are not. Every one is equal and every one should be treated that way. Some kids cant run away from being bullied. It happens at school then they come home, go on face book and it is still going on. The kids who do go online and get bullied do not know better. They love being online and having their own voice for once. It is a place where your parents are not there. A world for you to go and get away from your home. If I was a little kid and this was happening to me i would not give it up. It's a privilege and to tell your parents some one was bullying you the chances of you being able to go on again would be slim. I know my parents would take it away in a heart beat if i said something like that was happening to me. It's very tragic how these social websites have things like this happen and their are no consequences for those who bully. These things are taken to lightly these days by socity. It needs to change now. Hitler was a bully and he did not get away with what he did. Not saying everyone who bullies is hitler but he was a bully and they are to. Why are they not punished?
